LOS ANGELES — Nusi Quero, the visionary artist whose futuristic designs adorned Beyoncé's "Renaissance" album cover and pushed the boundaries of wearable art, died on September 3 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 36.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Quero, born Paul Giese-Garonzik, died by suicide. Dr. Lawrence Nguyen listed the cause as ligature hanging in a report released on Wednesday.

Quero's death marks the end of a career defined by artistic brilliance and personal controversy, leaving behind a complex legacy that spans the worlds of high fashion, music, and adult entertainment.

Rising to prominence with his 3D-printed designs that merged technology with haute couture, Quero gained international recognition for creating the body armor featured on Beyoncé's "Renaissance" album cover. His otherworldly aesthetic caught the attention of not only mainstream celebrities but also figures in the adult entertainment industry.

Quero's work found particular resonance with adult entertainers, including Charly Summer, the 2023 AVN Award winner for Best New Starlet, and nominee Angel Youngs. Charly was wearing a Quero design on award night in Las Vegas. Quero's provocative creations, which often blurred the lines between fashion and art, became sought-after pieces in an industry increasingly focused on visual aesthetics.

"Nusi’s designs weren’t clothes; they were experiences," said Charly Summer. "Wearing them made you feel powerful, feminine, beautiful. Nusi always said he made beautiful things for brave people."

Nusi Quero's work left a significant mark on HBO's provocative series THE IDOL, which also featured Summer. He played a crucial role in defining the aesthetic of Lily-Rose Depp's character, Jocelyn, notably through the futuristic pink bodysuit showcased in episode two's "World Class Sinner" music video scene.

However, Quero's career was marred by serious allegations of sexual misconduct. In 2022, more than 30 women came forward with accusations ranging from inappropriate behavior during fittings to claims of sexual assault. The allegations, which Quero vehemently denied, led to a significant backlash, with many former collaborators distancing themselves from the artist.

Born on November 27, 1987, Quero showed an early aptitude for design and technology. He studied at the Parsons School of Design before launching his career, quickly gaining attention for his innovative approach to wearable art.

Before venturing into fashion, Nusi Quero, then known by his birth name, was a member of the experimental indie band Hundred Waters, where his early work in music production and design took shape. Hundred Waters, formed in 2011 in Gainesville, Florida, gained recognition for their ethereal blend of electronic and folk influences. Signed to Skrillex’s OWSLA label, the band released their acclaimed debut album in 2012. Quero and his fellow band members were instrumental in crafting the sonic and visual identity defining the group’s distinctive artistic presence.

During his time with Hundred Waters, Quero co-wrote the remix of their track "Show Me Love" by Skrillex. It became a standout piece in the EDM scene, featuring contributions from artists such as Chance the Rapper, Moses Sumney, and Robin Hannibal.

Despite the controversies that overshadowed his later career, Quero's impact on the fashion and entertainment industries is undeniable. His work challenged conventional ideas about the intersection of technology, art, and the human body.

2024 has seen many mainstream celebrities, influencers, and adult stars meet tragic ends. As the adult community grapples with Quero's complicated legacy, his passing has reignited discussions about mental health in high-pressure artistic fields and the importance of accountability in creative industries.

No public memorial services have been announced at the time of this report, and the family has not released any statements regarding arrangements or commemorations.
