James Gosselin—the former male performer known as Uncut James—has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison for attempting to kill content creator Flesh Mechanic during a bizarre attack in Los Angeles last spring.
Gosselin, 27, was initially charged with attempted murder for ramming his truck into the back of Flesh Mechanic’s motorcycle and then attacking him with a golf club on April 2, 2024. But that count was dismissed as part of a plea negotiation earlier this month.
Instead—in a case that never went to trial—Gosselin pled no contest May 9 to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of carrying a loaded firearm in public. He was sentenced to four years in state prison on the first count, one year on the second and eight months on the third for a total sentence of five years and eight months.
Additionally, Gosselin has been ordered to pay restitution to Flesh Mechanic, with the amount to be determined at a hearing scheduled for June 30.
Reached by PornCrush Saturday morning in Prague, Flesh Mechanic said, “I’m just happy to be alive.”
He declined to comment further.
Upset that he had shot a scene with his former girlfriend, Gosselin was reportedly acting in a jealous rage when he staked out Flesh Mechanic and ambushed him last April. Driving a truck he’d borrowed from a friend, Gosselin allegedly struck Flesh Mechanic’s motorcycle twice before exiting the vehicle wearing rubber gloves. He attempted to put on a ski mask before striking Flesh Mechanic with a golf club.
Flesh Mechanic fended off the attack, shattering Gosselin’s orbital bone with one punch. A video from the scene shows a bloodied Gosselin flat on his back with Flesh Mechanic sitting on top of him, restraining his arms while waiting for the police to arrive. A massive knot had swollen above Gosselin’s left eye and a laceration was visible beneath it. Blood dotted his lips and teeth.
“You don’t have respect for me that I fucking had a problem with you and came to you?” Gosselin says to Flesh Mechanic in the video.
“Not at all,” Flesh Mechanic replies. “With a golf club? You think I’m going to have respect for you for coming at me with a golf club?”
Gosselin shrugged.
“So what?” he said. “You’re wearing a helmet.”
Gosselin was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and mistakenly released. He was arrested later that evening and booked into the LA Metro Detention Center. He was later released after posting a $1 million bond.
A former friend of Gosselin told PornCrush that he’d discussed his plan to murder Flesh Mechanic weeks before the attack.
“I thought he was joking,” said the friend, who spoke to PornCrush on the condition of anonymity. “I never imagined he would actually go through with it.”
The friend said she attended a comedy show with Gosselin about two weeks before the attack. She said the former male talent was despondent following a breakup with his girlfriend—and irate that she had recently shot a scene with Flesh Mechanic.
“I felt bad for him, in some ways,” said the friend. “He was a very unhappy person, and he was becoming erratic. It was clear that he was struggling.”
The friend said Gosselin had expressed his disdain for Flesh Mechanic in the past. But when his name surfaced during the car ride home, Gosselin took his hatred to a new level when he “joked” about killing Flesh Mechanic with a hammer.
“I was pretty shocked,” the friend said. “I turned to him and asked him point blank, ‘What the fuck is wrong with you? Why would you say that?’”
An argument ensued.
“He eventually said, ‘I’m just making a little joke—but I do know how to do it. I know someone who has a truck with a flatbed to transport (the body). And (Flesh Mechanic) always posts his location online, so I could just wait outside.’
“I said, ‘You’re being crazy! You’re being weird, and I hope you know how wrong that would be and that I’d never defend you.’
“The car got really quiet after that. Two weeks later, he shocked us all.”
How much of his sentence Gosselin will actually serve is unclear, as the court recommended that he volunteer for California’s “fire camp” program for inmates.
Once they pass a short training program, camp participants assist state, local, and federal government agencies as they respond to all types of emergencies such as fires, floods, and other natural or manmade disasters. Crews also maintain parks and assist with sandbagging during flood-fighting operations and reforestation.
The program paves the way for several job opportunities and benefits after release, including advanced training and criminal record expungement. Additionally, formerly incarcerated people can seek professional emergency response certifications that were previously unavailable to them.
Camp participants also earn time credits. Most incarcerated fire crew members receive 2-for-1 credits, meaning they receive two days off their sentence for every one day they serve on a fire crew. Camp volunteers who work as support staff, but not on a fire crew, receive day-for-day credits, meaning they receive one day off their sentence for every day they serve as a firefighter.
