Life as a goonette: popular blogger Catherine Duffy (@whoreuro) talks about porn obsession

Catherine Duffy, the creator of Whoreuro—a blog that's become a beacon for gooners and porn enthusiasts alike—opened up about her evolution from a porn newbie in Northern Ireland to a dedicated chronicler of Europe's most erotic corners.

Today, Duffy is one of the most well-known goonettes. Deeply passionate about pornography and all things sex, she’s an inspiration to gooner culture. This week, we sat down with Catherine Duffy to get to know just what porn means to her.

Patrick: I will never forget the sight of a ribbed glass dildo spreading Silvia Saint’s pussy, her pink lips quivering with each inch. It was the coolest thing I had seen in my entire life. And it happened to be the first actual pornography I ever saw. Can you recall your first experience viewing pornography?

Catherine: Growing up on the Catholic side of Belfast, porn was about as taboo as you could get. My first experience was finding a box of discarded porn mags in an alleyway in Belfast, with the screams of an arguing couple in the background. The wife had found her husband’s secret stash and threw them out.

After taking a peek, I was entranced by what was on the cover and impulsively grabbed as many as I could, then ran home with them under my jacket. At home, I locked myself in and spent all night devouring the contents in sheer awe.

‘’How is this possible?!’’ I thought, watching women smirk their way through double penetration or stare deep into my eyes with sperm dripping down their faces. I was in awe. Sheer awe. The next day, I was red-eyed and sore between the thighs, but still ravenously hungry for more.

Patrick: Looking back, was there an epiphany moment when you realized that porn was going to hold a special place in your life?

Catherine: Yes, it was when I ventured into a London porn cinema for the first time in my early twenties. It was in the Soho red light district, gritty, sleazy, and hardcore. Watching porn on a huge screen and with surround sound while surrounded by people who shared my passion for smut was a game-changer.

The crowd was mostly men with some couples, and the collective masturbation and sex to porn at that moment felt like a wild ritual, and I was genuinely hypnotized by the pulse in the air. I knew I already had a growing obsession, but it was at that moment that I told myself that I was going to take this to the next level.

Patrick: Before you started Whoreuro, what was your fan experience like? Tell me about your viewing habits and favorite pornos from your days as a major fan.

Catherine: After graduating from university, I found myself working on the road a lot and staying in hotels. I would take what I called my ‘’sleaze bag,’’ which let me set up a ‘’Goon Cave’’ (before it was even a thing) everywhere I went. Sex toys, cables to link my old-school laptop to the TV if possible, and masturbating myself senseless in my hotel room before and after work.

My viewing habits saw me watching porn from the moment I woke and late into the night. I would use suction cup dildos to mimic what I was seeing on my screen and dress like my favorite pornstars too, taking meticulous notes about their outfits. I honed what I called ‘’porn-grade’’ skills and mastered deep-throating, double penetration, and other filthy talents in hotel rooms across the UK and Europe. At the time, I was slightly socially awkward due to being on the autism spectrum and would struggle to meet men to unleash them upon. However, I thankfully got over it, and that all changed dramatically.

My favorite pornos back in the day (and which still hold a special place in my heart) were the works of Gianna Michaels, Kelly Wells, and Sandra Romain. Raw, gritty, and hardcore was what spoke to me the most, and the authenticity of these women had me in awe of them.

Patrick: What’s the Whoreuro origin story? What made you want to go into blogging?

Catherine: I never trained as a writer, although I do love to read. It was during the COVID-19 lockdowns. After regularly visiting swingers’ clubs, porn cinemas, and other debauched goings on across Europe, I was genuinely starved for fun due to the lockdowns, and it was affecting my mental health. Someone suggested I start writing about my experiences over the years as an outlet, and that’s what I did.

I started by posting stories on Reddit and found them taking off. Then, with experience in web design, I set up Whoreuro and began posting there; it quickly took off. The origin of the name Whoreuro was a nickname given to me by some swinger friends in Czechia and Germany. I was proud to be a self-confessed whore, and obsessed with porn-fuelled exploration of every sleazy corner of Europe. Hence Whore-Euro. In hindsight, it doesn’t read as good as it sounds in person, and some people struggle to pronounce it, but it’s too late now!

Patrick: And how many years have you been running the project now?

Catherine: Since around 2021, time flies when you’re writing about smut!

Patrick: Outside of fandom, did you have any experience with the porn industry before?

Catherine: I’ve never starred in conventional porn, although it’s a lifelong dream. It’s currently impossible for me to go ‘’face out’’ due to my day job, but I do have a plan in the works. If Whoreuro takes off enough, I’ll be ditching my day job and throwing myself headfirst into porn.

Prior to Whoreuro, my only experience was porn conventions and meeting my favourite stars. I also freelanced as a logistics organizer for creampie gangbangs in Europe that were sometimes filmed, but other than that, no.

Catherine: Were you surprised at the sort of following Whoreuro generated?

Catherine: Yes and no. I initially didn’t expect to even make a dent in the industry with my work, as there’s so much content out there. However, I also soon realized that I am something of an anomaly. A porn-obsessed woman who ventures into sex cinemas alone and writes about it in graphic detail? Not someone you meet every day, I guess!

Patrick: One of my biggest surprises entering the adult industry has been the social aspect: making friends and having great discussions about porn fandom. What has your experience with the porn community been like?

Catherine: Genuinely incredible. It’s hard to put into words how much the porn community has changed my life. For years, I felt like a somewhat weird outsider due to my autistic obsession with porn, but since connecting with other porn fans and creating Whoreuro and meeting countless others, it has changed my life for the better.

I’ve met some genuinely beautiful souls through my work, and I hope to meet many more. I find the porn community a supportive, welcoming, and open-minded bunch and have learned a hell of a lot from their perspectives and life experiences. I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Patrick: You’ve effectively turned gooning from a hobby into a business. Has that affected your interest and enjoyment of adult films in any way?

Catherine: I was worried it would have a negative impact, but it has had the opposite. Whoreuro makes me an income and I’m now able to earn a living from reviewing sex toys while I Goon. As well as networking with other like-minded porn fans, it’s allowed me to invest more time into Gooning, genuinely study the art of porn in immense detail, and it has turned the hobby into a life mission overall. I equally adore Gooning, whether it’s for business or for literal pleasure.

Patrick: What’s your favorite thing about running Whoeuro?

Catherine: Being free to write whatever my slutty heart desires and knowing it will resonate with people is glorious. I adore hearing the lustful feedback from fans about the latest exploits, not to mention being brought into contact with some wonderful people. It’s like a snowball effect as the more I write, the wilder my future experiences are. I also adore it when people reach out to me for the chance to meet in person and create new Goon adventures together.

I am also a bit of a tech geek, and being paid to write sponsored sex toy reviews is also fantastic. Some of the latest creations on the market are mind-bending, and I have been given some sample toys that are so artistically beautiful they’ve earned a place on the shelves in my writing room.

Patrick: Studying porn and gooning on this level takes serious time and dedication. How do you find work/life balance?

Catherine: It’s not always easy, that’s for sure. I am very well organized, thankfully, and I’m awake very early. I often study/write before and after work and adore a relaxed Sunday with music playing and just studying porn and gooning, and that’s when I often get a lot of work done. For me, studying smut and gooning is a pleasure and passion, so I never see it as work. I also enjoy my normal day job a lot, so that helps.

Patrick: You’ve recently launched a VIP feature. What led you to running members-only content?

Catherine: I found myself chasing newer and wilder experiences to provide edgier content for my fans, and was visiting different countries, and recruiting other like-minded folks to do so, but I quickly found the costs spiraling. Plus, as the site grew, so too did hosting costs and the need to hire staff. So, I decided to provide a VIP feature that was the same price as one coffee a month, and it really helped to take the edge off and take Whoreuro to a whole new level. The fans are very happy with the VIP smut, and I am equally loving how much it has taken off.

Patrick: The Whoreuro brand is beloved amongst gooners and porn fans alike. Have you considered branching the project into porn production?

Catherine: I have indeed. However, balancing porn production on top of everything else would be a major workload right now. My long-term goal is to make Whoreuro capable of providing a full-time income. Then, I plan to quit my day job as a marketing manager and go into porn full-time. I would prefer to start than to deal with the production on top of my writing and porn studies.

My dream is to start working for Czech porn companies at first. I adore sleaze, extreme sex, double penetration etc., in real life, not to mention outlandish themes such as the horror porn and Perverse Family series, so that would be right up my street.

I also have a lot of erotic fiction books in the pipeline, as my ebooks have been very popular, especially my recent one that goes deep into the surviving porn cinemas of Europe.

Patrick: Porn means many things to different people. How would you describe what porn means to you?

Catherine: Art, an escape, the pinnacle of beauty, and salvation. I view porn as one of the greatest forms of art the human race has ever accomplished. It’s a form of escape that has helped me in my darkest times and allowed me to really find myself as an autistic female. It gives me so much pleasure that it’s enough to make me emotional, and I am truly grateful for first discovering that box of porn mags in that Belfast alleyway all of those years ago. If I didn't, who knows where my life might have ended up?
